“Goodbye to Summer” Party

Last Saturday we had our big "Goodbye to Summer" party, with guests of honor Tom Burns and his wife Maxine and son Steven, who came all the way from Australia for the event. It also happened to be Tom B.’s birthday, so we had yet another reason to celebrate. Other honored guests included Robert and Brenda McCool and Shawn Herron (all from Kentucky), Dave and Joella Flory (formerly of San José, CA and now newly transplanted Texans from Flower Mound) and Jeff Ackerman (Pennsylvania Yankee who now resides in Aggie Land).

In addition to those who came in from out of town, we were honored to have Rowlett mayor John Harper and his wife Debra, along with many of our relatives, friends and neighbors. Special thanks go to my cousin Sharon for coming early and helping me get the food ready.

And speaking of food, we had plenty of it. We served it buffet style, with the heavy duty stuff such as Tom’s ten-alarm chili, rotini alfredo, sushi, beans, chicken wings and taquitoes on the center island. Pizza, appetizers, bread, and desserts – including the chocolate fountain (thanks to Shawn and Brenda for the help with that) on the pennisula.

After a while, the party moved outside, where we had a nice breeze coming in off the lake.

As the sun went down, some of the guests departed, but the hard core piglets hung around until after 1:00 a.m. We had a fantastic time visiting with them, some of whom I have known as good friends in cyberspace for over ten years but had not met in person until this week.

I only hope we can do it again next year, and get even more of our online and real world friends together next time.
