After a long hiatus, I’m back to blogging on this site. If you’re interested in my tech postings, see my other blog at http://deb-tech.spaces.live.com. This space is for more general and more personal news, thoughts and meanderings, especially about goings-on in the DFW and Lake Ray Hubbard areas.
The last six months have been busy, and I’ve been up to my ears in interesting projects, of both the money-making (writing) and money-spending (remodeling) types. Now there’s a little more free time and I intend to enjoy it. One way of doing that is to start posting here regularly again.
I guess what everyone is talking about lately is the weather. This has been one of the wettest Junes in a long time, and it seems even wetter in comparison to last year’s draught.
Here’s a photo of the lake behind our house in early 2006:
As you can see, the beach extends at least thirty or forty feet beyond the erosion wall.
Here’s the same area (hard to believe it’s the same) today, after all the rains:
The water is almost to the top of the wall. And there’s more rain falling as I write this. Maybe it’s time to start building an ark (we already have two cats and two birds; that’s a start).
Meanwhile, all this rain is good for the new landscaping we put in a month ago. We’ve hardly had to water it at all, and everything is growing beautifully. Here’s my little side garden:
Meanwhile, it’s nice to be safely inside and on relatively high ground. A lot of folks in North Texas haven’t been so lucky:
